Hi , Mike !
My FINN time was at same time as you Mike 1971-1976. After cadet my coach replaced my in that serious gear. Then I was a skinny 50 kilos boy and my dream was to become more then 70 kilos to win this boat in harder winds... :-) Then it stops - family, education and hard work takes over my free wind dreams. It was long time ago. Now I have 90 kilos at the age of 53, I have my own furniture business, and I can full fill my childhood dream to get my own finn, thats why am looking to buy FINN in normal shape but not expensive one . May be you have some suggestions about sites or variants. As I am understand the best is Vanguard... Thanks.

Hi. It's very good for me to find the classic Finn site. I own and sail Vanguard GBR 486 as a loony fling at the age of 69. I sailed Finns seriously from 1971 to 1976 with little success but a 9th at the nationals got me to one gold cup and a lot of fun on the circuit.
Two years ago I went barmy and bought an old Vanguard and went to a few Master's opens and the World Masters in France. What a blast from the past! However the Vanguard did it's best but can't keep up with modern Finns. I've lapsed as a member of the BFA because I can't be competitive. I'd like to know if I have to rejoin BFA or CVDRA or whatever to be eligible for the Classic Finn events.

I thought the following anecdotes may be of interest. A friend and I built Finns 167 and 168(Flmenco)from Fairey shells during the cold winter of 1963.We had similar deck layouts which were the vogue at that time.We bought masts from Collar of Oxford and I think the alloy centre plates came from a firm in Essex. We chose to go to Bruce Banks for our sails and met him personnaly to discuss our needs. However the whole session with him was devoted to talking about spinnakers for International 14s. However when the sails arrived they were just perfect and specific to our physical builds.
I recall also a trip we made from Southampton Water to Cowes on the 1963 August Bank Holiday Monday. We were joined on entering the harbour by Peter Milne sailing his Finn and spent an enjoyable time in his company dicsussing the merits or otherwise of the class. I shall follow the class news keenly on this site from now on. Roy Wallis

Hello - We are looking forward to welcoming your members to the national and wondered whether you would be able to put a link up on this page for the Chandlery? We are based at the Yacht harbour, 50 yards from the new (almost finished...) Mylor Yacht club. If there are spares that need to be held for your event please let us know and we will check our stock.
thanks
